Current Projects: Free health care in Los Angeles
In October 2011, the non-profit organization CareNowLA held a four-day clinic at the Sports Arena near USC that provided free health care, including dental, vision, women's health and general medicine. In one day, nearly 5000 people from the greater Los Angeles area waited hours in line to get a wristband that would grant them entry to the clinic. Hundreds of doctors, nurses, clinicians and volunteers donated their time, equipment and money to provide aid to those without enough health insurance, or none at all. The patients' backgrounds encompassed all walks of life, from small business owners forced to choose between paying their employees and getting their own health care, to homeless men and women who hadn't had medical care in many years.
