Dan Suh has been quarantining at home with his dog, Bunny Lebowski Suh.

“Physically, I’m feeling fine which is probably the most important thing for me (maintaining physical health to flatten the curve). Mental health-wise, my anxiety is probably at an all time high. The most noticeable physical manifestation of my anxiety is that I’ve been having trouble sleeping.

I’m trying to rein it in as much as possible because I’m worried that the anxiety could take a toll on my immune system.

“I’m trying to ride that delicate balance of getting enough information to stay up to date on all of the developments, without subjecting myself to information overload. It’s easy to get sucked into the news cycle vortex these days, but I have to remind myself that at some point there are diminishing returns with information intake.

“I have an elderly family member on the East Coast who tested positive for COVID-19, along with approximately 40 co-residents at the assisted-living facility she lives in. I just got the news recently, so not much information about her specific case is known. Obviously as a family we are very concerned for her well being. Talking about this with my friends, it’s striking that just about everyone I’ve spoken with directly knows someone who has gotten sick from this virus, or has gotten sick themselves.

“I have barely left the house since the quarantine began, so I have luckily not had any personal experiences with overt racism towards me YET. People are angry that their daily routine has been ground to a halt, and there’s an instinct for people to find the easiest target to blame. Of course, this makes me feel much more anxious than usual. I really feel for Asian Americans who have been physically and verbally assaulted, and whose businesses have been vandalized. Hopefully people will realize that we’re all in this same shitty predicament together, and we’re better off trying to focus energy on something positive.

“Like millions of other Americans, I’m currently unemployed so I don’t have work to focus on, per se. I wake up in the morning, take the dog for a walk, and pretty much free-form the rest of the day. I try to stay social with friends and family via text and FaceTime, and am constantly illuminated by the depth of information available on YouTube. Other than that, it’s lots of reading and catching up on TV shows and movies. Every now and again I’ll fire-up a regular season baseball game from today’s date but in the past (i.e., April 17, 2016) so that the sights and sounds will be somewhat familiar. Any small thing to bring some sense of normalcy is welcomed.
